Military Spouse Appreciation Day
I couldn’t let Military Spouse Appreciation Day pass without giving a shout-out to my Grandma Jean.
Her story is nothing short of amazing, and I am in awe of her strength and resilience.
Grandma Jean’s husband, my Grandpa Averly, joined the US Army right after completing medical school. He served in WWII (D-day included) and was even wounded in action, earning himself a Purple Heart.
Meanwhile, Grandma Jean was caring for their newborn baby all by herself. Talk about a superwoman!
But her unwavering support didn’t end there. When Grandpa Averly returned home, still wounded with shrapnel in his skin, Grandma Jean encouraged him to begin a new life as a civilian. He went on to become a successful cardiologist, and together, they raised a beautiful family of four children, including my mom.
Their love and commitment to each other set the foundation for their family’s future success, and I am forever grateful for the legacy that Grandma Jean has left behind.
So today, on Military Spouse Appreciation Day, I want to say thank you, Grandma Jean, for your sacrifice and service. You are a true inspiration, and I am proud to call you my favorite military spouse.
